Interview

What does it take to go from learning yoga to teaching it?

Really, anyone can teach yoga, you just need to get your 200 hour certification, but as far as why you’d want to teach yoga is if you have the desire to share what you’ve learnt and help people.

I know many of the poses are named after animals. How many are there?

There are so many. There’s Peacock, Monkey, Flying Insect, Turtle, Pigeon... I’m sure there’s a ton more.

Is there a dingo pose?

Probably! I’ll look it up for you.

What do you tell people who say they aren’t into yoga?

Saying you’re not into yoga is like saying you’re not into music. There’s always a type of music for everyone and it’s the same with yoga. We have yoga for runners, more intense yoga, very calming yoga - you can always find something to fit your needs.

What kind of music would you associate with your favorite type of yoga?

You’re talking to a huge Nine Inch Nails fan. I’ve met Trent Reznor twice and I’ve seen 24 shows. Huge fan!

I’ll admit, I don’t know that much about Nine Inch Nails, but it seems to me that they are about as far away as you can get from what I’d expect someone who does yoga would listen to.

I get that a lot. Yoga and Nine inch Nails are my two passions. They’re also the only two things I’ll travel for. I’ve traveled to go to a yoga conference and I’ve traveled to see their show. I even got to do both when I went to LA. I got to do some great classes with some friends on Laguna Beach and then see NIN live in concert. Yoga during the day and mosh pits at night!
