InterviewWhat is your relationship with fashion?I draw lots of my inspiration from a little known fashion designer and model, Chance Birmingham. I met him in Edmonton and he’s probably the best looking person I’ve ever met. I want to be like him... Chance Birmingham, he’s like a persona. He’s got it all, he goes out, parties hard, and then gets it done the next day; gym, tan, laundry, he’s got it all. So, you model?Only a few times. I don’t really like the idea of modeling but I’ll work for friends. At Edmonton Fashion Week, I was modeling for a local designer friend and I went in the back and there was a girl crying. I asked her why she was crying, and she told me that he said she was too fat. I stopped being friends with him after that. If you are going to boss me around and tell me that I’m not something, you better be paying me a load of money. The whole idea of the modeling doesn’t appeal to you?I was on retainer for an agency for a while, but it is hard to make it in Edmonton. We have an emerging industry, and there are lots of people doing good work here, but it is not a hotspot. Do you know how many artists, musicians, and cool people we hemorrhage to Vancouver and Montreal? Let’s all move to Vancouver...Let’s go right now... Hopefully, with downtown revitalizing, and they always talk about downtown revitalizing, but this year it seems like it might actually happen. It’s cyclical between Whyte avenue and downtown, and you don’t really know where it is at until the Oilers are in the playoffs and you are looking for the parties. Did you grow up in Edmonton?Yeah, born and raised. My whole family is from Saskatchewan though. Sometimes, I like to pretend I’m from Saskatchewan; it gives me the right to drink Pilsner and it makes me sound like I’m from somewhere foreign. |
