InterviewYou’ve been the Editor-in-Chief of the NAIT Nugget student newspaper for the last two years. What made you take on that challenge?A friend was the Editor-in-Chief when I first got to NAIT and she asked me to be the issues editor. The only problem was, she left after three weeks and I got voted in as Editor-in-Chief. If you had asked me three years ago if I would ever write for a newspaper, I would have said there’s no way. Do you regret being voted in by committee to take on that role? Not at all. I love it. It’s the best experience I’ve had in my life and it’s not something I would change. I had never been involved in something before, so now I feel connected to the school, I know the students union by name, and the teachers also look at me a little differently. Probably because if they say something wrong in class you could ruin their careers.I like to remind them of that... There are those moments when teachers will tell me that what they’re about to say is off the record and should stay in the classroom. When you became the Editor-in-Chief, the newspaper was a little low on readers. How did you fix that?We just wanted to give the students content they wanted to read. Grapevines is very popular. It’s where people can send in little messages, like “Saw you in the blue hat in the common market, want to date?” or “To the hot teacher - teach me something...naughty”. We get a lot of participation from that. We also have an Adult Film Review every week which has also been popular. We rate the movies on a scale of 1 - 5 Pearl Necklaces. We just have fun with it and I think that comes across in the content. I’m sure you’ll have a lot of people looking for the “Adult Film Reviewer” job opening next year.
