Your band is called the ET Quartet. The quartet part is pretty self explanatory, but what does the ET stand for?

I don’t really want to give away the mystique behind the ET in “ET Quartet”. It could be any number of things... It could be extra terrestrial or it could be ear training, which is a class we have at MacEwan. Really, it’s open for interpretation. We asked a bunch of people what they thought ET could stand for and we got some weird answers: Eclectic Trashcan, Eager Teacher.

I think it’s Eagle Talons - KAWAKAAAHHH... But Eclectic Trashcan Quartet has a nice ring to it. What style of music do you play?

It’s essentially a rock band, but because we’re taking a bunch of jazz theory and jazz classes, we’ve been letting some of that stuff influenceus. It’s becoming a funky rock jazz hybrid.

Does anything else at the arts campus impact the work you do?

Well, we’ve made a music video because someone in the video arts program needed to do one for a project, and if we were so inclined, we could have band photos shot by people in the photography program, and with friends in the recording program we can get recording done too. We could even have posters made by someone in graphic design.

You could also find backup dancers too I guess. I wish I had backup dancers for everything... So what’s next step for the band?

This is the biggest band I’ve ever been a part of. It’s nice because I was able to collect the people I wanted to play with, and although everyone has totally been pitching in, most of the material is mine. I’m really pushing to get a published album out of it.
