Interview

How did you land yourself the presidency of the MacEwan SA?

It just kinda happened. I just sort of always had an interest, and one of my friends was on the executive last year and she encouraged me to do it. So I did, and then I won. But, it’s funny because I almost dropped out. I mean, it’s an intimidating roll and I’ve never done anything like it before. I guess everyone feels that way when going into anything new, but I’m glad I did it. I love it. It’s fun, rewarding and challenging.

Do you think everyone is going to recognize you when you walk down the halls and sit in class?

In my three years being here, I’ve been lucky enough to create a huge network of people that I know, and I’ve been able to accomplish that just through me being me. I mean, I’ll talk to anybody. That’s part of the reason I decided to run. As great as the past presidents have been, I think the one thing that was lacking was no one knew who they were. I feel like it’s hard to really represent the population if I’m not out there getting people to know me and recognize me. In my opinion, the student executives should be the most well known people on campus. That’s my goal.

So if people want to get to know you outside of MacEwan, where can they find you?

Black Dog. I love the Black Dog. Especially during the summer, nothing beats their rooftop patio. It always has a good vibe and good people. It’s also kind of a melting pot, you get all these different types of people that go there. That’s the thing I really like about it. It’s not geared towards a specific demographic. I like its relaxed atmosphere.

I second that.
