You say that your second language is Klingon. Where...

It all came about when a buddy and I took an english as a second language course, one of the projects was to teach a language we didn’t know to a group of people of the teacher’s choice. So, we chose Klingon and then afterwards we found out that we would be presenting to a group of senior citizens at an old folks home. We had a bunch of old ladies speaking very guttural Klingon. It was great.

I’ve seen a lot of pictures of you around campus and you’re almost always wearing a toque. What’s the deal?

There isn’t really a story behind it. I’m just really particular about them. I have about seven or eight and I wear them until they’re so stretched out they fall off my head. It started in grade 10 when I grew my hair out and didn’t want to deal with it. I thought, “Hey, no one else is doing this, this is really cool”.

I guess we should talk about the fact that you’re the president of the NAIT Students Association. What’s the best part?

The best part is actually seeing a difference within the organization, but it can be a bit disheartening at times. The best part of this job is the people I work with. Everyone is on the same page and everyone is really passionate about making sure life is as good as it can be for the students while they’re here.

What about cutting cheques for $100,000? How’s that?

Yeah, I take pictures of those. There’s nothing like knowing I have $13 in my account and I’m signing a cheque for $54,000. I don’t know if I should be taking pictures of them, but I do.
